History

Starting in 1986, the American Eagle Gold Coin collection was introduced with the production of the 1 oz coin. These 1 oz coins were manufactured by the West Point Mint since the collections initial release. Fractional coins in the collection were made at the Philadelphia mint until 1993, and in the years after, production of all weight denominations transitioned to the West Point location of the United States mint.

Obverse

The image of Lady Liberty is shown on the obverse of the 1990-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin. This design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In the design, the viewer will see Lady Liberty walking forward. Behind her, sun rays extend out into the sky, which helps highlight her radiance.
