Obverse

On the obverse of 1991 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, youll find a right-facing portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This design was created by Dora de Pedery-Hunt in 1990 and shows the Queen at age 64 wearing the George IV State Diadem, along with a pair of earrings and a necklace. History

In November 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the Gold Maple Leaf Series for the first time. The new fractional-ounce coins included both the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz versions. Later additions to the series included the 1/2 oz coin in 1986, the 1/20 oz coin in 1993, and the 1 Gram coin introduced in 2014.
