History

The 1/10 oz fractional-weight gold coin in the American Gold Eagle Coin collection wasnt released by the United States Mint until 1988, even though the series itself was first introduced in 1987. The Philadelphia Mint continued to produce this weight denomination until after 1993, when production officially and permanently moved to the West Point Mint, since this is where the one-ounce denomination was already being manufactured.

Obverse

The design shown on the 1991-P Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins obverse is inspired by the original Double Eagle design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which was originally featured on United States twenty-dollar gold pieces between the years 1907 and 1933. The coins obverse shows the figure of Lady Liberty walking forward with long hair flowing back in the wind behind her. In her left hand, she holds a torch, while the right carries an olive branch. The viewer will also see the U.S. Capitol Building included at the bottom left of the obverse.

Reverse

The 1991-P Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins reverse shows a design created by sculptor Miley Busiek. The image features a family of eagles; the male eagle flies overhead with an olive branch in its talons, while the female eagle and hatchlings wait in the nest.
