Proof American Eagle Gold coins are known for the PF70 certification and UCAM designation. A grade of PF70 indicates the coin is in perfect condition with no flaws that detract from its original luster. UCAM stands for ultra-cameo designation and is only given to proof coins. These effects allow coins to have enhanced visual brilliance with strong, frosted finishes. Among the Proof American Eagle Gold coins, the 1/10 oz weight is the lightest option available and only offered in the gold bullion and proof gold coins.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1992 Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold coin features Lady Liberty. Augustus Saint-Gaudens created this design in 1907 at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt. The image shows Lady Liberty walking away from the U.S. capitol building in the background. She carries a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The obverse side is complete with 50 stars surrounding the edge of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse, youll find a family of bald eagles. The male eagle flies overhead with an olive branch in one of its talons. The female eagle sits in the family nest protecting a young hatchling with its wing. Miley Busiek designed this image in 1986, and it is now reserved for Gold Eagle coins.

History

The Proof American Eagle Gold coins were first released in 1986 with the 1 oz coin. The coins in this collection are now available in four weights1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. The 1/10 oz coin had the highest mintage in the collection for this release year.
