Proof American Eagle Gold Coins were introduced in three waves between 1986 and 1988. The 1 oz gold debuted first in 1986 and the fractional-ounce coins were released in 1987 and 1988. The 1/2 oz gold coin was released on its own in 1987 while the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins were issued in 1988.

Obverse

On the obverse face of the 1992 Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin is the image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing portrait of Liberty depicts her figure walking toward the viewer with a large torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. It was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and used on the $20 Gold Double Eagle.

Reverse

The reverse side of 1992-P Proof American Eagle Gold Coins has a design from Miley Busiek. Created in 1986 exclusively for this series of gold coins from the United States Mint. In the design, a male eagle flies over the family nest as a female eagle is perched within the nest next to a young hatchling.

History

1992 Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins have a P mintmark from the Philadelphia Mint on the reverse side. The Philadelphia Mint struck only the fractional-ounce coins in the series and did so from 1987/1988 when the coins were introduced until 1993. Since 1994, these weights have been struck at the West Point Mint with the 1 oz gold coin.

Ordering

1992-P Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins are available with PF70 certifications. These are perfect coins with full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. UCAM designations stand for ultra-cameo and refer to the combination of strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear backgrounds.
