Obverse

Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse of the 1993 American Eagle Gold Coins. This design, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, portrays Liberty in a full-length profile, moving toward the viewer while holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The background features the U.S. Capitol Building, surrounded by a ring of stars and rays of sunlight. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1993.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 1993 Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find an American bald eagle family. This design was created by Miley Busiek in 1986 specifically for this coin, showing a male eagle soaring above the nest while a female eagle protects her hatchlings. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 50 DOLLARS.

History

The introduction of the Gold Eagle by the U.S. Mint in 1986 marked an important development in the realm of gold coins in the United States. Though not designed for circulation, these coins were the first U.S. gold coins issued since 1933, and they are the purest since 1834. American Gold Eagles are composed of 22-karat gold, which includes 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
