The Perth Mint made waves in the bullion world in 1988 with the release of its Australian Platinum Koala coin series. This was among the first platinum bullion collections issued by a major mint, and it quickly became a popular option for investors and collectors alike. From 1988 to 2000, the coins were issued annually, with common weights including 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. Provident Metals is proud to offer the 1993 Australian Koala 1 oz Platinum Coin.
Highlights:
This 1993 Australian Koala 1 oz Platinum Coin represents the sixth issue in the series and comes with a distinct design for that year. The coin is safely housed in a plastic flip for protection and preservation.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1993 Australian Koala Platinum Coin, you will see Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Raphael Maklouf. This portrait was the third official design used during her reign and shows the Queen in right-profile wearing the George IV State Diadem. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1993 Koala 1 oz Platinum Coin features a depiction of a koala resting on a tree branch. Koalas are not just a symbol of Australias wildlife, but also an important part of its tourism industry. Visitors from around the world come to Australia to see these charming animals up close in wildlife parks and zoos. The inscriptions here read THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA, 1 OZ 9995 PLATINUM, and 1993.
History
Koalas have become increasingly vulnerable due to the impact of habitat destruction. Urban expansion, farming, and the rise in bushfires have significantly affected the areas where koalas live. As their habitats shrink, the need to protect these beloved animals has become more urgent.
