History
The American Eagle Gold series was launched by the US Mint in 1986 under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. The 1 oz proof version made its debut alongside the Bullion version in 1986. Following that, the 1/2 oz proof coin was introduced in the subsequent year, while the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz versions came out in 1988. Since its inception, proof coins in this series have been released annually, except for the year 2009.
