History

The coin’s name comes in part from Paul Kruger, a central figure in South African history. Kruger served as president of the South African Republic (Transvaal) from 1883 to 1900 and was a leading voice in the struggle against British rule during the Boer Wars. While celebrated for his leadership and resilience, his views and policies are now considered controversial, particularly with respect to race relations.
