The Proof American Eagle was produced by the San Francisco Mint from 1986 to 1992. From 1993 to 2000, Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins were struck by the Philadelphia Mint with a P mintmark on the reverse.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 1995-P Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is the iconic Walking Liberty design. Created in 1916, the image depicts Liberty in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon. She extends her right hand toward the sun as she walks with the American flag over her shoulders and branches of oak and laurel in her left arm.

Reverse

The reverse of all Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins features the heraldic eagle of the United States. Originally created in 1792 by Robert Scot, the 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, the heraldic eagle is the national seal. This modern depiction of a powerful bald eagle behind the steady US national shield was modified for the American Eagle Silver Coins by John Mercanti, the man who would go on to serve as 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

History

The 1995 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin was issued during the United States Mints 10th-anniversary celebration. A total of 407,882 coins were struck in the Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver release, with an additional 30,125 Proof American Eagles from the West Point Mint with a W mintmark sold in the 10th Anniversary American Eagle Five Coin Set.
