Obverse

This 1995 American Eagle Gold Coin features an image of Liberty on the obverse. The design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ for coins minted in the early 20th century. When the U.S. Mint decided to create a new American Eagle Program for minting gold and silver American Eagle coins, it restored the image to ensure more accurate details that align with modern minting processes. Otherwise, the image remains the same as it did on those old coins, with Lady Liberty striding forward against a background of rays of sunlight. She holds her torch high and cradles an olive branch in her other hand. Inscriptions on the reverse read LIBERTY and 1995.

Reverse

The U.S. Mint commissioned a new reverse image for the American Eagle Program’s gold coins in 1986. The image was designed by Miley Busiek Frost and includes a family of bald eagles around and in their nest. The male eagle is flying into the nest and carrying an olive branch. The olive branch is a symbol of peace. Inscriptions on the reverse include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1/4 OZ FINE GOLD, and 10 DOLLARS.

Packaging

The coin comes packaged in a protective plastic flip to keep it safe during transport. You can also use the clear flip to store or show your coin through the years as you like.

History

The U.S. Mint launched the popular American Eagle Program in 1986, including silver and gold coins of various weights and denominations at that time. Later, it added platinum coins into the mix. Legally, the Mint can’t alter the images used on the coins in this program for 25 years. That means the images on this 1995 coin are the same ones used on gold coins minted in the program from 1986 to 2020.
