History
Bullion collectors everywhere already know how amazing the American Gold Eagle Coin series is, so it’s no surprise that the brilliance of this collection continues into its 9th year of production. This 1/2 ounce coin was distributed by the West Point Mint. Until 1993, all fractional weight coins in this collection were made at the Philadelphia location of the United Mint, but in the years following, production of all weights in the series moved over to the West Point location.
Obverse
The image of Lady Liberty is seen on the obverse of the 1995-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin, where shes seen walking forward towards the viewer. This image was taken from the Double Eagle design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and it has continued to be the featured obverse design of the American Gold Eagle Coin series. In the image, Lady Liberty is shown holding both hands up, with one carrying a torch high into the air and the other holding an olive branch.
Reverse
A special eagle-family design is seen on the reverse of the 1995-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin. This design was created by artist Miley Busiek. Three Eagles are shown nesting, with one eagle flying overhead and carrying an olive branch in its talons. The coins specs are also featured on the reverse, including its weight, purity, origin country, and value. There are also two inscriptions: E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST.
