Obverse
The classic obverse design of this coin starts with two simple inscriptions that read LIBERTY and 1997. The rest of the obverse is taken up with a gorgeous depiction of Lady Liberty, who is walking forward against a backdrop of sun rays that reach upwardas if the sun is setting or rising on the horizon. Liberty herself also carries a form of light, as she raises her torch of enlightenment high. In the other hand, she carries the symbolic olive branch that represents peace. Behind her, the image of the capitol building in Washington DC can be seen.

Reverse
The reverse of this coin is much more inscription heavy. You’ll find inscriptions spelling out UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1/10 OZ FINE GOLD and 5 DOLLARS. The reverse image includes a family of eagles in and around their nest. The male eagle is flying into the nest carrying the symbolic olive branch, which he may be using to build the nest out further for his mate and their young. The image was designed by Miley Busiek Frost in 1986 for use on the coins in the American Eagle Program.

Packaging
Coin is packaged in a protective plastic flip to maintain condition during shipping. You can also use the flip to protect the coin while you store or display it.

History
The American Eagle Program began in 1986 with silver and gold coins in various weights and face values. The images on the gold coins in the program remained the same from 1986 through 2020. Starting with 2021 issues of the coins, a new reverse and updated obverse image were used. The American Eagle Program also added platinum coins to the mix in later years.
