Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 1997-P Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, the item you receive has a perfect certification from the PCGS. Coins in PR70 condition showcase full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws present on the surface areas or design elements. The included DCAM label means deep-cameo. This designation is reserved for proof coins that have strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields.
Obverse
Walking Liberty was designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and revived by the United States Mint in 1986 for use on the obverse of the Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. The design features Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. She wears the American flag over her shoulders as her left hand carries the branches of oak and laurel, symbols of American military and civic prowess.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle is the oldest design from the US Mint still in use. Featured on the reverse of 1997-P Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, this latest version of the design was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti to feature a powerful eagle with the national shield on its chest and, most distinctively, a triangular cluster of 13 stars above its head.
History
The 1994 Proof American Eagle Silver Coin has the lowest mintage in program history at roughly 372,000 coins. That coin and the 1993 release are the only other specimens in the series with lower mintages than the 1997 coins. The 1997 coin features a P mint mark on its reverse field. The Philadelphia Mint produced by the Proof American Eagle Silver Coins from 1993 to 2000.
