Obverse

The image of Lady Liberty is shown on the obverse of the 1998-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin. This image was taken from the original Double Eagle design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which was featured on United States twenty-dollar gold pieces between the years 1907 to 1933. For this 1998-coin, Lady Liberty strides forward with radiance, her hair blowing back behind her in the wind. In one hand, she holds a torch; the other hand grasps an olive branch.

Reverse

An eagle family, designed by sculptor Miley Busiek, is shown on the reverse of the 1998-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin. In the image, a female eagle and the hatchlings wait in the nest while the male eagle flies overhead carrying an olive branch.
