History
The American Gold Eagle coin collection was first introduced in 1986 and has since been considered an official gold bullion product for the United States. There are different versions of these coins that have been released each year with classic designs. All coins in this collection have been authorized by Congress under the American Eagle Bullion Program, so investors can conveniently purchase these bullion products. The surging demand in 1999 for this specific coin was caused by the growing uncertainty surrounding the approach of Y2K.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1999 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin shows the image of Lady Liberty. This design of Lady Liberty striding forward was originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. In one hand, she holds a torch, while the other holds an olive branch. There are multiple sun rays shown behind Lady Liberty, and a ring of stars is shown around the edges of the coin. The obverse also shows the coins release year and the inscription LIBERTY.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 1999 American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin, theres an image of eagles that was originally created by Miley Busiek. The male eagle brings an olive branch to the nest where a female eagle sits with her hatchlings. There are also three inscriptions on the reverse: E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The coins value, weight, and purity are all shown on the reverse.
