The obverse side of the 1999 American Eagle Silver coin features a depiction of Walking Liberty. This bust of Liberty is a full-figure, left-profile portrait that captures her walking toward the sun on the horizon with one hand reaching out for the sun and the other carrying branches of oak and laurel. Inscriptions on this side include Liberty along the top, In God We Trust behind Libertys figure, and 1999 at the bottom.
On the reverse side of American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins, you will find the modern depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This emblem was originally created in 1792 for use on the eventual first-ever American coins and was modified for use on the American Eagle Silver Coin in 1986. This face of the coin bears inscriptions of United States of America along the top rocker, E Pluribus Unum on a banner through the center, and 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar along the bottom rocker.
Demand for the American Eagle Silver Coin was rising in the late 1990s as the American economy cooled and fears over Y2K jittered markets and investors. Mintage in 1999 jumped to 7.408 million coins, the highest since 1991. The increase was nearly 3 million coins more than the 1998 release. From this point onward, the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin would see continued growth in demand with three subsequent years of increased demand and sustained mintage levels above the dates of the 1990s.
