The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Maple Leaf Series in 1979, making it the second modern gold bullion series in the world. Over time, the series expanded to include fractional gold, silver, platinum, and palladium coins, all carrying the well-known sugar maple leaf design. Now, Provident Metals offers 1999 Canadian Maple Leaf 20 Years ANS Privy 1/10 oz Gold Coins featuring a special 20th-anniversary privy mark.

Highlights:

  • Ships in a protective plastic flip!
  • Marks the 20th anniversary of the Gold Maple Leaf Series!
  • Features a special 20th-anniversary privy on the reverse!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Bears a $5 (CAD) face value, issued by Canada.
  • Displays Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
  • Features the classic sugar maple leaf with a unique privy on the reverse.

These 1999 Canadian Maple Leaf 20 Years ANS Privy 1/10 oz Gold Coins with the 20th-anniversary privy mark arrive in protective plastic flips. Though the series originally debuted in 1979, the first 1/10 oz coins were introduced in 1982 when the mint began offering fractional weights.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1999 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin includes the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This was the second portrait of the Queen to appear on Canadian coinage and the first created by a Canadian artist. Designed by Dora de Pedery-Hunt, this right-facing depiction of the Queen shows her wearing the George IV State Diadem. The inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 1999.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 1999 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin, you will find the Royal Canadian Mints signature sugar maple leaf design by Walter Ott. First introduced in 1979, this design remains a staple of the series today. The reverse also includes an oval-shaped privy mark celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary, inscribed with the words “20 YEARS ANS.” The other inscriptions include CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/10 OZ OR PUR.

History

The release of the 1999 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf marked two decades since the debut of the series. When first introduced in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf was available only in a 1 oz weight with .999 gold purity. By November 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint increased the gold content to .9999 fineness and expanded the lineup to include fractional-ounce gold coins.
