Mjolnir, the hammer belonging to Thor in Norse mythology, was made by the dwarf brothers Sindri and Brokkr in a blazing forge during a wager with Loki, the god known for tricks and mischief. A slip while making the weapon gave it its well-known short handle, part of what makes its design so recognizable. Germania Mint now celebrates this legendary artifact in the second release of its Artefacts Series. Today, you can find the 2 oz Silver Artefacts Mjlnir Ultra High Relief Rounds available through Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2 oz Silver Artefacts Mjlnir Ultra High Relief Round comes protected in a capsule inside a wooden presentation box and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. The design uses layers of ruthenium, palladium, and yellow gold to highlight details of the hammer and its background. The ultra-high-relief strike raises elements of the design above the surface for a stronger visual effect.
Design
One side of the 2 oz Silver Artefacts Mjlnir Ultra High Relief Round presents the markings and designs seen on Mjolnir itself, crafted in layers of relief and accented with precious metal finishes for contrast. The other side shows the Germania Mints bicephalous eagle near the hammers handle, along with the denomination and other markings, arranged so the hammer remains the main feature. Inscriptions on one side include MJOLNIR, while inscriptions on the other read GERMANIA, 2025, 2 OZ AG, and 999.9.
History
Stories from Norse myth describe Mjolnir as a weapon with power over thunder and lightning, letting Thor defend the nine realms from danger. When thrown, it was said to crush giants and split mountains, sending thunder rolling through the skies. Thor used the hammer to shield Asgard and humanity from threats across many tales.
