Obverse

Osiris is depicted on the obverse field of the 2 oz Silver Antique Egyptian Gods Osiris Round as he looked just before Isis brought him back to life. Murdered by his brother Set, Isis collected his body and wrapped him up to the chest in cloth to make his body whole again and bring him renewed life through magic. He is shown with the crook and flail in his hands, symbols of kingship and authority, respectively. He is also featured wearing the Atef crown, a symbol of the ruler of Upper Egypt. The cartouche to the lower right is that which represents his name in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Reverse

His mummified remains are found in the reverse design of 2 oz Silver Antique Egyptian Gods Osiris Rounds. He is set before a pyramid tomb with clay jars near his feet that hold the vital organs removed from his body during the mummification process. There are inscriptions directly beneath his figure of 2 oz 999 Ag.

History

The Egyptian Gods Series originally featured four designs: Cleopatra, Anubis, Sobek, and Khnum. After a lull in production, the series is set for a return with the Osiris design leading the way, to be followed later on by Bastet and Ra. Keeping the tradition alive, Heidi Wastweet is once again creating the deity images for this series. The former Chief Engraver of the Sunshine Mint, Ms. Wastweet has more than 1,000 coin and medal designs to her credit in a career that spans three decades.
