The Germanic Gods Series is Germania Mints second series to celebrate mythological figures on cast silver bars. Each bar in this series features a colorized image on the reverse and hallmarks on the obverse. The Tyr design is the second release in a series of six, with each bar individually numbered.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2 oz Silver Gods Tr Cast Bar features the bars hallmarks. These include the Germania Mints logo, a stylized G with an M at its center, as well as the purity, metal content, and weight. Additionally, each bar is marked with a unique serial number, noted as XXX/999, indicating its place among the limited 999 bars. The inscriptions on this side read 999.9, FINE SILVER and 2 OZ.

Reverse

On the reverse, the Silver Gods Tr Cast Bar presents a colorized image of Tyr. Depicted with one hand, surrounded by flames, and holding a large sword in his left hand, Tyr is central to the myth of Fenrir’s Binding. To bind the monstrous wolf Fenrir, Tyr placed his hand in Fenrirs mouth as a guarantee of good faith. When Fenrir realized he was trapped, he bit off Tyrs hand.

History

Tyr’s symbol in Norse mythology is the T-rune, known as Tiwaz in the runic alphabet. This rune resembles an arrow pointing upwards, symbolizing victory and justice. Additionally, the North Star (Polaris) was sometimes referred to as “Tr’s stead” in Old Norse poetry, indicating his connection to guidance and direction.
