Obverse

Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom and skill, is depicted on the obverse of the 2 oz Pan Pac Octagonal Silver Round. She is depicted in left-profile relief with a Corinthian plumed helmet on her head and shield at her side. The shield has the date of the Panama-Pacific International Expo on it in Roman numerals, with the inscriptions around the design field reading United States of America and Two Troy Ounces. Inside the design element, you will find In God We Trust, the national motto of the nation.

Reverse

A symbol long associated with wisdom itself is featured on the reverse of 2 oz Pan Pac Octagonal Silver Rounds. The owl is a symbol of wisdom, but also one of bad omens. It is closely associated with Minerva in Roman mythology. Here, it is depicted with pine cones from the Ponderosa pine around it. Inscriptions include Panama-Pacific Exposition and San Francisco.

History

The designs found on both sides of this silver round are inspired by a $50 US Gold Coin issued in 1915 to mark the occasion of the expo. The Panama-Pacific International Expo took place through late summer in 1915 in San Francisco and helped populate and revitalize a part of town that had never previously been occupied by residents. The city was selected to host the exposition as a way of showcasing the progress it had made in recovering from the devastation of the 1906 earthquake.

Ordering

These silver rounds come from the Intaglio Mint, a small private mint that focuses on creating truly unique, inspirational silver rounds for collectors.
