Obverse

This design shows a Mexican golden eagle in left-profile relief as it sits perched on the branch of a prickly pear cactus. The bird is battling with a serpent that it controls with its beak and talons. The field includes inscriptions of ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and a date mark in Roman numerals.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2 Peso Mexican Silver Coin is an image of Winged Victory. Shown in front-facing relief, Winged Victory is perched atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City in this design. The mountains surrounding Mexico City are featured in the background field. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read DOS PESOS and 24 G. PLATA PURA.

History

Like the Gold Centenario, the Silver Peso was issued first in 1921 to mark the centennial of Mexicos independence from Spain. The designs introduced on these two coins are still in use today, though modified and modernized, on the Libertad bullion collections.
