Obverse

The obverse of each round bears the image of a large dragon called Fafnir. One round features a dark dragon design on a coppery background, while the other showcases a silver-colored dragon on the same background. The dragon is shown this his torso wrapping upward on the round, where it suddenly vanishes. You can see his large claws and tongue. His name is also shown on this side of the rounds. The ruthenium and terracotta plating add to the beauty of each round.

Reverse

The reverse image picks up where the obverse left off, with Fafnirs tail wrapping around the image of the Bicephalous Eagle. When shown side by side, the obverse and reverse images show that Fafnirs body makes an infinity symbol shape. The two-headed eagle is a symbol found on many Germania Mint rounds.

As a symbol for the Roman god Janus, the god of all origins, as well as the guardian doors, passages, bridges, and gates, the Bicephalous Eagle is the perfect addition to these coins. With heads facing opposite directions, the eagle symbolizes both the past and the future. Germania 2020 can be seen across the upper portion of Fafnirs tail on the reverse of each round.
