Obverse

On the obverse of each round, you will find the image of Fafnir, a large dragon. One round showcases Fafnir plated in yellow gold, while the other features the design plated in rose gold. The image of Fafnir seems to vanish at the top of the round, while his tongue dangles from his mouth. Fafnirs name can be found gracing the obverse of the rounds.

Reverse

The reverse image picks up where the obverse left off, with Fafnirs tail wrapping around the image of the Bicephalous Eagle, making an infinity symbol shape across the round. The two-headed eagle is a symbol featured on many Germania Mint rounds. The Bicephalous Eagle is a Roman mythological symbol for Janus, the god of all origins. Janus is also the guardian of doors, passages, bridges, and gates. With heads facing opposite directions, the eagle symbolizes both the past and the future. Germania 2020 can be seen across the upper portion of Fafnirs tail on the reverse of each round.

These beasts were ferocious and dangerous, and tales of their horrifying appearances and adventures have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries.
