Arguably the most popular coin design ever issued on an American gold coin is that of Lady Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. His design was created in 1907 and was the second and final design used on the Gold Double Eagle coins. Right now, Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins are available to purchase online from Provident Metals.
Each Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coin available to you here today is in Mint state 63 condition. This grade is available to coins that exhibit slightly impaired mint luster, small contact marks and a few scattered heavy marks. You may also notice small hairlines without the aid of magnification.
On the obverse side of Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle Coins is an inspiring image of Lady Liberty as the guiding force of the nation. She walks toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The US Capitol Building is visible at her feet in the distance.
The reverse face of Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles features a beautiful American bald eagle gliding in flight with its wings spread as the sun crests the lower portion of the design field and its rays of light reach to the edges of the field.
The Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle design debuted in 1907 just months of Saint-Gaudens died from complications due to illness. The design went through three reverse types that included Roman numbers and no national motto in 1907, Arabic numerals and no motto from late 1907 to 1908, and Arabic numerals with In God We Trust from 1908 to 1933. The first year of issue include some attempts at a high relief strike, but the vast majority of the coins were eventually struck in low relief as the US Mints technology was not capable of good high relief striking at the time.
