One of the smallest denominations of US currency ever issued, and currently the smallest and thinnest coin, the US dime was once available with 90% silver content. The 90% Silver Dimes were issued by the United States Mint between 1837 and 1964. Right now, you can buy $200 Face Value 90% Silver Dime lots online at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a canvas bag of 2,000 US dimes!
  • Available with date marks ranging from 1837 to 1964!
  • Designs vary by date mark on the coin!
  • Contains 145.8 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Bears individual face values of $.10 (USD) fully backed by the American government.
  • On the obverse and reverse are varying design elements.
  • Please note the date marks can vary in this listing and so too will the designs.

With your purchase of a $200 Face Value 90% Silver Dime lot, you will receive a canvas bag with a total of 2,000 US dimes. The dime has been in production by the United States Mint since 1796, though only those coins issued between 1837 and 1964 have 90% silver content with a 10% copper balance. Please note you are likely to find a wide range of date marks on the coins in your plastic pouch, with varying designs also possible. The more likely designs will be those from the 20th century, but other designs are possible. All coins were formerly in circulation and are likely to show some level of wear and tear.

Designs

On the obverse and reverse of the 90% Silver Dimes in this listing, you are most likely to find the Roosevelt Dime or Mercury Dime images. The Roosevelt Dime is the current design still in use on the dime. It was introduced in 1946 with a bust of Franklin D. Roosevelt on the obverse and a torch with branches of oak and olive on the reverse. Only those Roosevelt Dimes issued from 1946 to 1964 have 90% silver.

Also likely to feature is the Mercury Dime, or Winged Liberty Dime. This coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916 and used on the coin through 1945. All issues of this coin, with Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap on the obverse, featured 90% Silver.

Other possible designs in the series with 90% silver include the Barber Coinage issued from 1891 to 1916 and the Seated Liberty Dime issued from 1837 to 1891.

History

The US dime was issued from 1796 to 1837 as well, but these versions of the coin are both harder to come by in the modern era and lack 90% silver. The Draped Bust and Capped Bust Dimes were issued from 1796 to 1837 with 89.2% silver and 10.8% copper.
