Highlights:
Authorized by the Gold Bullion Act of 1985, the Proof American Eagle Gold coins are minted from gold sourced in the US. The coins are struck in 91.67% gold. For added durability, the gold is combined with 3% silver and 5.33% copper. A W mint mark appears on the obverse of each coin to identify they are struck at the West Point Mint.
Obverse
The 2000-W Proof American Eagle Gold coin obverse highlights the Lady Liberty Double Eagle design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The design features the full-length figure of Lady Liberty, striding towards you with her hair flowing behind. In her outstretched right arm, she has a torch and in her outstretched left arm, she has an olive branch. Inscriptions included are LIBERTY and 2000.
Reverse
The 2000-W Proof American Eagle Gold coin reverse highlights the king of birds of prey, the Bald Eagle. This design, created by Miley Busiek and sculpted by Sherl J. Winter, features the male Bald Eagle, with an olive branch in its talons, flying towards a nest where a female eagle and an eaglet await. Inscriptions included are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 10 DOLLARS.
History
The Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold coins were not issued until 1988, along with the 1/10 oz coins. While sales of the 1/4 oz Proof Eagle Golds started strong in 1988 with 98,028 coins sold and were relatively strong the 2nd and 3rd years, the annual sales totals after that time have been on an overall downward trend. In 2000, the US Mint sold a mere 36,036 1/4 oz Proof Eagle Gold coins. In 2009, increased worldwide demand for precious metals forced the US Mint to not issue any Proof coins.

For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
