In 2001, the US Mint introduced a special 2-coin set that brought back the well-known Buffalo Nickel design, this time in silver. These commemorative silver dollars showcase the original designs by James Earle Fraser, now struck in a larger format with more detail. The goal of the release was to honor the legacy of the Buffalo Nickel and offer collectors a new way to enjoy these classic American images. Provident Metals now has 2001 $1 US Mint Commemorative Buffalo Silver 2-Coin Sets in stock.

Obverse

Notable influences included Iron Tail, Two Moons, and Big Tree. The design includes carefully rendered details of traditional Native dress. Inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2001, and Fraser’s F initial.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2001 $1 US Mint Buffalo Silver Dollars, the design features a bison modeled after Black Diamond, a resident of the Central Park Zoo in the early 1900s. This image served to represent the importance of wildlife in the countrys frontier era and became an enduring symbol of the American West. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
The original Buffalo Nickel debuted in 1913 and remained in circulation until 1938. Created by sculptor James Earle Fraser, the coin was meant to represent the spirit of the American West, focusing on the countrys native peoples and wildlife.
