Chinese Panda Gold Coins have been a top choice for gold collectors for decades. First introduced in 1982, the series is well-known for showcasing new Giant Panda artwork each year. In over forty years, only one design has ever been reused. Right now, 2001 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2001 Chinese Panda 1 oz Gold Coin comes securely sealed in plastic. The 2001 issue stood out for two reasons. First, it introduced larger face values for the series. From 1982 through 2000, the 1 oz coins carried a 100 Yuan face value, while the 2001 edition debuted the new 500 Yuan value. Also, the artwork for the 2001 coins became the only design ever repeated, appearing again on the 2002 coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2001 Chinese Panda Gold Coin, youll see the design that has remained constant since 1982. This is the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests, the main building within the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing, a site completed in 1420. The inscriptions here read 2001 and the nation of issue.
Reverse
The reverse design on the 2001 Panda 1 oz Gold Coin features the new panda artwork chosen for that year. It shows a Giant Panda among bamboo, continuing the annual tradition of fresh artwork for each release. Each design offers a different view of this peaceful, well-known animal. Inscriptions here read 500, 1 OZ, and AU .999.
History
Giant pandas have a mix of physical traits that suit their bamboo-based diet. Their black-and-white coats help them stay hidden in forested areas, while their strong jaws and flat molars are perfect for breaking tough bamboo stalks. They even have a pseudo-thumb, an adapted wrist bone that functions like an extra finger.
