The 2001-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin was struck by the West Point Mint, which is shown by the W mint marking on one side of the coin. Struck using 22 karats of actual gold content, this coin was made with a perfect combination of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and 5.33% copper. This coin also features a proof design, indicating that the background of each side is frosted while the designs are mirrored.

History

The American Gold Eagle Coin collection is a well-known series that was first introduced into the bullion world in the year 1987. In 1988, the 1/10 oz fractional-weight coin in this series was added by the Philadelphia Mint, which produced this weight denomination through 1993. In 1994, the production of all weight values in this series1 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/10 ozwas permanently moved to the West Point Mint location.

Obverse

The image of Lady Liberty is shown on the obverse of the 2001-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin. This image is inspired by the original Double Eagle design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, which is known for being featured on United States twenty-dollar gold pieces from 1907 to 1933. In the image, Lady Libertys hair flows back majestically behind her as she walks forward. She holds a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.

Reverse

A family of eagles is shown on the reverse of the 2001-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coin. In this image designed by Miley Busiek, a male eagle flies overhead with an olive branch grasped within its talons. The female eagle and eaglets are shown waiting in the nest.
