Obverse

Walking Liberty is shown on the obverse of the 2003 American Eagle Silver Coins. The design known as Walking Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and featured on the obverse of the US half dollar until 1947. It was modernized and modified in 1986 for use on the American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin. The primary modification was the addition of two stars to the circle surrounding the design element. It last featured 48 stars, reflecting the number of states in the Union in 1947.

Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States is depicted on the reverse face of 2003 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins. This design was developed first in 1792 by Robert Scot, 1st Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, but this version was modified in 1986 by John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.

History

Mintage of the 2003 American Eagle Silver Coin was 8.495 million. The next two mintage years would boast mintages of 8.882 million and 8.891 million, respectively, maintaining incredible stability in the program over the three-year period.
