Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2004 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is in an individual plastic flip. The 2004 release of American Eagle Gold Coins was met with varied interest by investors. The 1/4 oz gold coin actually fell in terms of mintage in 2004, but all of the other weights gained mintage during this release
Obverse
Lady Liberty is visible on the obverse of 2004 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins. This design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens is one of the greatest design elements in American history. It was created in 2007 and shows Libertys full-length figure in front-facing relief. The inscriptions on this side read LIBERTY and 2004.
Reverse
A family of American bald eagles is featured in the reverse design of 2004 American Eagle Gold Coins. The elements shown here include a male eagle in flight above the nest as a female eagle guards young hatchlings in the nest. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD 10 DOLLARS.
History
The 2004 release of the American Eagle Gold Coin saw the 1/ oz gold coin fall by more than 2,000 coins compared to the previous year. The 1/4 oz coin was the only coin to lose mintage levels, but the increase in the 1/10 oz and 1 oz coins was relatively modest compared to the 1/2 oz. While the 1 oz coin gained just under 1,000 coins and the 1/10 oz coin jumped by just under 5,000 coins, demand for the 1/2 oz coin saw its mintage jump by nearly 20,000 coins compared to 2003.
