The Austrian Philharmonic is a globally renowned gold coin that is widely available for purchase. These coins were initially introduced in 1989, with a face value in Austrian Schillings, which was later replaced with the Euro – the common currency of the Eurozone. From 2002, the coins have been issued with Euro denominations. Provident Metals now has 2004 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 2004 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals, you will receive a coin with an individual protective flip. The coins issued in 2004 had a mintage just over 176,000, a figure that was the third lowest in program history at that point in time.
Obverse
The 2004 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin’s obverse design displays the Golden Concert Hall’s pipe organ, which was installed in the early 1900s. The coin’s design also features an image of the concert hall itself, where the organ resides. Inscriptions include REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2004, and 100 EURO.
Reverse
In the 2004 Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin’s reverse design field, the Austrian Mint has masterfully portrayed the musical instruments used by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The instruments highlighted in the design include a cello, four violins, a bassoon, a harp, and a horn. Inscriptions read WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.
History
While this marked one of the early low points in the programs history, the demand for Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins sunk in the years to come. The next three issues after 2004 were much lower, but demand would rebound in 2008 thanks to the Great Recession.
