Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins were launched in 1979 as a response to the growing popularity of the South African Krugerrand. At that time, many Western nations implemented sanctions against South Africa, creating demand for another high-quality gold coin. The Gold Maple Leaf quickly became a standout in the bullion market and holds the distinction of being the first-ever 24-karat gold bullion coin. Now, 2004 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Coins arrive inside protective plastic!
  • 26th date in the Gold Maple Leaf Series!
  • Contains 1/10 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of $5 (CAD) by Canada.
  • The obverse side features a bust of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is the sugar maple leaf.

Each of these 2004 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins is packaged in protective plastic to ensure they remain in pristine condition. When the Gold Maple Leaf program started in 1979, only a 1 oz gold coin was offered. By 1982, the Royal Canadian Mint expanded the collection to include fractional weights, with the 1/10 oz and 1/4 oz gold coins being the first new additions.

Obverse

The obverse of 2004 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This design, introduced in 2003 by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt, portrays the Queen at age 79 in a simple, right-profile relief. Unique among effigies of her reign, this depiction features Her Majesty without a crown or tiara, offering a more personal representation. The 2004 coins mark the first use of this design in the Gold Maple Leaf Series. The inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 2004.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2004 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins features the sugar maple leaf. As a long-standing symbol of Canadian heritage, the maple leaf reflects the countrys unity, natural beauty, and cultural identity. Its prominent place on this coin series has made it a beloved design among collectors and investors alike. The inscriptions read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/10 OZ OR PUR.

History

Walter Ott created the timeless maple leaf design that appears on the reverse of the Canadian Maple Leaf Coins. The highly detailed imagery captures the intricate veining and texture of a real maple leaf, adding to its beauty and providing additional security against counterfeiting.
