The Chinese Mint introduced the Gold Panda Series in 1982, offering four different weights at launch: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. In 2001, the mint adjusted the face value of all denominations, an update that continues today. Right now, Provident Metals has the 2004 Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coin available for purchase.
Highlights:
Each 2004 Chinese Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coin arrives in its original sealed plastic pouch from the Chinese Mint. The 1/2 oz Gold Panda has been part of the series since its debut in 1982. Originally issued with a face value of 50 Yuan, this denomination was increased to 200 Yuan in 2001.
Obverse
On the obverse, the 2004 Chinese Panda Gold Coin displays the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. Shown from a viewpoint at the base of its stairs, this building is the largest within the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing. Since the series launched in 1982, this historic structure has remained the central design element on the obverse of Gold Panda coins. Inscriptions include the nation of issue and 2004.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2004 Panda 1/2 oz Gold Coin captures a tender moment between a mother panda and her cub. Giant panda mothers play a crucial role in their cubs survival, teaching them how to select bamboo and develop foraging skills over the first two years of their lives. Inscriptions read 200 (Yuan), 1/2 OZ, AU, and .999.
History
The reverse of the 2004 Gold Panda features an image of a mother panda caring for her cub. Giant pandas are known for their attentive parenting, with mothers providing constant care and protection. Newborn cubs are fully dependent on their mothers, who nurse and nurture them until they are ready to explore on their own.
