This front-facing relief shows Liberty with a torch held aloft in her right hand as her left hand carries an olive branch. The design field includes the U.S. Capitol Building, sun rays on the horizon, and a ring of 50 stars around the design element. Inscriptions on this side read LIBERTY, 2004, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2004-W Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Gold Coins is an image of a family of bald eagles. Designed in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this depiction shows a male eagle soaring over the family nest as a female eagle guards over the hatchlings within. The 1/10 oz gold coin in the Proof American Eagle Series was introduced in 1988. The coin immediately became the leading coin in the series from a sales standpoint. From 1988 to 2007, the 1/10 oz gold coin was the best-seller each year.
