These 2004-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins ship directly to your door in plastic slabs from the Professional Coin Grading Service, also called PCGS. PCGS gave each of these coins a perfect PR70 grade, meaning they are fully struck and are free of visual marks. This doesnt mean that small defects arent allowed, though.

Each of these coins also has the DCAM designation from PCGS. DCAM stands for Deep Cameo, which means that the design fields are heavily frosted, while the backgrounds are deeply-mirrored, proving a significant contrast.

Proof coins are struck using polished dies. These dies are struck with extremely high pressure. This method gives the coins sharper rims and designs, while leaving the background super smooth, helping add to the contrast seen on these coins.

Obverse

Augustus Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty design graces the obverse of these coins. In the image, Lady Liberty is seen as she strides forward with the sun gleaming off of her back. In one hand, she carries a lit torch. In the other, she holds an olive branch. The engravings on this side of the coin include LIBERTY and 2004.

Reverse

On the reverse, you will find Miley Busieks 1986 American bald eagle design, which was created specifically for use on these coins. This design shows a female eagle and hatchling in a nest, while a male returns to the nest holding an olive branch between his talons. The engravings on this side of the coin include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and IN GOD WE TRUST.

The United States Mint first began producing American Gold Eagle Coins in 1988. Today, American Eagle Coins are minted in silver, gold, platinum, and palladium, which each metal type featuring a different design.
