In 2006, the United States Mint reached a memorable milestone: 20 years of producing the American Eagle series. Since their introduction in 1986, the American Silver Eagle and American Gold Eagle have served as the nations official bullion coins. To mark this achievement, the Mint introduced a special edition Silver Eagle honoring the anniversary. Today, certified 2006 American Eagle 20th Anniversary 1 oz Silver 3-Coin Sets are offered at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Inside the certified 2006 American Eagle 20th Anniversary 1 oz Silver 3-Coin Set, each coin is individually slabbed and graded Mint State or Proof 69 by PCGS. At this near-perfect level, coins maintain their brilliant luster with only minimal marks or lines, none of which affect the major details. The set includes a Proof Silver Eagle, a Reverse Proof Silver Eagle, and a Burnished Silver Eagle.
Obverse
The obverse of each 2006 American Eagle Coin continues Weinmans Walking Liberty design. Originally placed on the half dollar in 1916, the image remained a cornerstone of American coinage through 1947. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2006.
Reverse
The reverse of each 2006 Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin showcases John Mercantis Heraldic Eagle. Drawing on motifs from early U.S. coinage, this version became the signature reverse of the Silver Eagle until its redesign in 2021. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and the individual mint marks.
History
The Walking Liberty, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, blends inspiration from classical Roman and Greek art with American ideals. Liberty is shown in stride with flowing robes, carrying branches of laurel and oak to reflect honor and strength.
