Obverse
The 2006-W burnished American Eagle silver dollar has a gorgeous obverse design taken from Weinman’s original concept for the 50-cent piece. The original Walking Liberty design was used from 1916 through much of the first half of the 20th century on the 50-cent piece, and it received a restoration for this coin. The image shows Lady Liberty moving across a field with the rising sun above mountains in the distant background. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, and the coin features the 2006 date on the bottom.

Reverse
The reverse side of the 2006 American Eagle 1 oz silver dollar depicts the iconic heraldic eagle. The eagle’s wings are spread for flight and its talons hold an olive branch and arrows. Thirteen stars and a shield also adorn the reverse side of this coin. Around the imagery are inscriptions that read: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ FINE SILVER and ONE DOLLAR.

Packaging
To protect the coin during shipping and provide an easy and sophisticated solution for displaying it, the 2006-W American Eagle 1 oz silver dollar is shipped in an original US Mint presentation box. The box includes a transparent circular cutout where the coin can be viewed. The coin also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

History
In 1986, the US Mint released a line of American Eagle silver dollars as an official silver bullion in the nation. Twenty years later, the Mint added a collector’s edition, and the 2006-W American Eagle 1 oz silver coin is the first release of that edition. Sadly, these coins were not minted in 2009 and 2010 due to economic pressures from the Great Recession. Minting reinstated in 2011, and there have been collector’s editions of the coin each year since.
