Obverse
The obverse side of the 2006-W Proof American Eagle Platinum Coin features a depiction of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief features the face of the Statue of Liberty and was designed in 1997 by John Mercanti. The inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY, 2006, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2006-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins, you will find the image of the Legislative Muse. She is featured in the center and is flanked by pillars on either side that have eagles perched at the top. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, .9995 PLATINUM 1 OZ, $100, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.
History
The 2006 issue in the Proof American Eagle Platinum Series was the first in the three-year Foundations of Democracy. This design honors the bicameral United States Congress, while the 2007 design honored the presidency and the Executive branch, and the 2008 design honored the Judicial branch.
