Perth Mints Lunar Series coins are highly popular with both investors and collectors. The first series, known as Lunar Series I, debuted in 1996, and the mint has continued this tradition with a new 12-coin set each time the Zodiac cycle restarts with the Year of the Mouse. The Year of the Pig marks the twelfth and final year in this cycle. Currently, 2007 Australian Lunar Pig 1/2 oz Silver Coins are available from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2007 Australian Lunar Pig 1/2 oz Silver Coin comes sealed in a plastic capsule for protection. The Year of the Pig issue is the ninth coin in the Lunar Series I silver collection. Even though the series started in 1996, the silver coins were first released in 1997, and the series continued until 2010 to complete the 12-coin set, aligning with the Zodiac cycle.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2007 Australian Lunar Pig Silver Coin features Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998, shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This was the fourth official portrait of the Queen during her reign. Inscriptions read AUSTRALIA, ELIZABETH II, and 50 CENTS.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2007 Lunar Pig 1/2 oz Silver Coin, there is a depiction of a pig. The pig is shown standing on all fours in right-profile relief with a small pile of leaves beneath its feet. Inscriptions include the Chinese emblem for the pig, 2007, and 1/2 OZ 999 SILVER.
History
During the Year of the Pig, certain colors and numbers are considered lucky. Red, pink, and purple are the luckiest colors, while the luckiest numbers are 2, 5, and 8. Wearing these colors or incorporating these numbers is thought to attract good luck.
