Obverse
On the obverse of 2007 Australian Lunar Pig Coins is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is featured in right-profile relief in this design from Ian Rank-Broadley created in 1998 for the Royal Mint of England. Debuting on Australian coins in 1999, this design captures the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara that was gifted to her grandmother Mary of Teck, later Queen Mary, upon her marriage to the future King George V.
Reverse
The reverse of 2007 Australian Lunar Pig 1 oz Gold Coins includes the image of a small piglet. The piglet is standing on all four legs and shown in left-profile relief. The design field includes inscriptions of the Chinese symbol for a pig to the right, the date mark 2007 to the left, and 1 oz 9999 Gold below. The border has a beaded design.
History
The Perth Mints Lunar Series Collections, from Lunar Series I to Lunar Series III, follow the exact 12-year cycle of the Zodiac. The Lunar Calendar starts with the Year of the Rat and concludes with the Year of the Pig. For the Lunar Series I collection, this meant the Year of the Rat was 1996 and the Year of the Pig in 2007.

The mint was established by the Royal Mint of England in 1899 and operated by that mint system until 1965 when possession was passed to the state government of Western Australia following the establishment of the sovereign Royal Mint of Australia.
