The burnishing process involves polishing the platinum blanks in a drum with a special medium, resulting in a soft, matte finish. These blanks are then struck individually to create a crisp, clean image on each coin.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2007-W Burnished American Eagle Platinum Coin displays a close-up of the Statue of Libertys face. This design was used from 1997 to 2017 and was created by US Mint Engraver John Mercanti specifically for the Platinum Eagle series. Reverse

History

Between 2006 and 2008, the US Mint issued a three-part design series on the reverse of Proof and Burnished Platinum Eagles. Known as the Foundations of Democracy Series, these designs represented the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of the US federal government. The 2007 edition honored the Executive Branch and showed a powerful version of the American bald eagle.
