  • Deep Cameo designation!
  • Contains 1/4 oz actual weight of 22-karat gold!
  • Obverse features the Gold Double Eagle design from Augustus Saint-Gaudens!
  • Reverse image showcases a family of bald eagles by Miley Busiek.

The PCGS, or Professional Coin Grading Service, places all of these coins in plastic slabs after they are graded. We ship these coins in their plastic slabs to prove their authenticity. Each of the coins in this listing have received a perfect PR70 grade, meaning they are all fully struck and free of visual marks. The PCGS does allow for some minor flaws as long as they dont take away from the appearance of the coins.

These coins have also been given these coins the Deep Cameo (DCAM) designation. Coins with this designation have heavily frosted devices and deeply-mirrored backgrounds. The DCAM designation is reserved just for coins that have exceptional contrast.

To achieve this kind of brilliant proof finish, the United States Mint strikes these coins with polished dies at an extremely high level of pressure. This process gives the coins sharper rims and design fields.

Obverse

The image on the obverse is the same design that was used on the Gold Double Eagle Coins that debuted back in 1907. Designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this image features Lady Liberty as she walks away from the Capitol building with the sun at her back. She carries and olive branch in one hand and a flaming torch in the other.

Reverse

The reverse design was created by sculptor Miley Busiek back in 1986 just for use on American Eagle Gold Coins. In the image, a large male bald eagle is seen returning to his nest with an olive branch between his talons. In the nest, a female and hatchling await his return.

History

In 1986, the United States Mint released the first-ever American Eagle Gold Coins. The Mint releases Gold Eagles in three versions each year: bullion, proof, and uncirculated. In addition to the gold coins, you can also find American Eagles in silver, platinum and palladium. Each different metal type features a different set of designs.
