Canada’s history in gold mining and refining has placed it among the world’s leading gold producers. The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is celebrated for its exceptional gold bullion coins, including the iconic Canadian Gold Maple Leaf series. Occasionally, the RCM issues special coins like the 2008 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin, crafted from the purest .99999 fine gold. These coins are now available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2008 Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin is housed within a sealed assay card, which provides authentication details in both English and French. The .99999 pure gold content of this coin highlights the Royal Canadian Mints dedication to producing some of the worlds purest gold coins.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2008 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin, youll find a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt in 2003. This portrait is unique as it is the only major depiction of the Queen used on Canadian coins without a crown or tiara. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, 200 DOLLARS, and 2008.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2008 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin showcases a design featuring two sugar maple leaves connected by their stems to a small branch. This design is a special feature that distinguishes this limited edition .99999 pure gold coin from others in the series. The inscriptions here read CANADA, 99999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.
History
Canadas involvement in gold mining dates back to the late 18th century, with the first major discoveries recorded in Nova Scotia. Significant gold rushes followed in the mid-19th century, such as the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush in British Columbia and the Klondike Gold Rush in Yukon Territory, shaping Canadas mining industry and solidifying its status as a leading gold producer.
