History

The First Spouse Series began in 2007 following the authorization of Public Law 109-145. The series was an instant success, with the first three featuring Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, and a Liberty portrait for the widower Thomas Jefferson. The coins have been issued in sequential order along with the $1 Presidential Dollar from the United States Mint.
