The 2008 release of Proof American Eagle Gold Coins was unique. Since 1986, the Proof American Eagle Gold Coins had been issued every year. However, 2009 would see all Proof American Eagles in gold and silver halted as the US Mint redirected blanks in both series to the production of bullion coins. Right now, you can get the 2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin in perfect condition from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Your 2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin is available with a perfect certification from the NGC. Coins with PF70 grade exhibit full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind. UCAM labels indicate coins that are ultra-cameo. This means the coins have strong, frosted design elements combined with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
Obverse
The obverse of 2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins includes the vision of Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. He created this design in 1907 for the US Mint and it was chosen for the $20 Gold Double Eagle, a coin it was showcased on from 1907 to 1933.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins is a design from Miley Busiek. Exclusive to the American Eagle Gold Coins, the image captures a male eagle in flight above the nest with a female and a young hatchling resting in the nest.
History
Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins were the first fractional-ounce coins in the series and debuted in 1987, one year after the 1 oz version of the coin. The mintage of 2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins was 22,602. This was third-best among the four coins, with the 1/4 oz the lowest-minted coin that year, and the 1/10 oz and 1 oz gold coins surpassing the 1/2 oz.
Ordering
2008-W Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins come with a protective plastic slab from the NGC. These coins have W mint marks from the West Point Mint included.
