American Eagle Gold Coins from the United States Mint come with varying mintages based on the price of gold and interest among investors. Two of the highest periods of demand in the history of the American Eagle Gold Series are the Y2K scare from the late 1990s and the Great Recession between 2008 and 2010. In fact, the 1999, 1998, 2010, and 2009 coins represent four of the five highest mintages in the history of this coin. Provident Metals currently has 2009 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.

Obverse

The obverse side of 2009 American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coins depicts an iconic image from American coining history. Introduced in 1907 on the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin, this vision of Liberty was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the behest of President Theodore Roosevelt in an effort to overhaul national coinage at the start of the 20th century. This beloved design showcases a free, powerful Liberty figure walking forward with a large torch held out in her right hand to light the way and an olive branch in her left. With rays of sunshine emerging from behind her figure, the US Capitol Building is visible at her feet and a ring of 50 stars around the design element represents each US state. There are inscriptions of Liberty and 2009 on this side of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse field of the 2009 American Eagle Gold Coin is an image of the American bald eagle. Miley Busiek created this design in 1986 exclusively for the American Eagle Gold Coin Series. It shows a female eagle extending her wing to shelter a hatchling as a male eagle flies overhead with a branch in its talons. The inscriptions used on this side include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 1 oz. Fine Gold 50 Dollars.

History

The highest mintage in the history of the American Eagle 1 oz Gold Coin Series came in 1999 at the height of the Y2K scare. These 2009 gold coins in the series have the second-highest mintage in the programs history with 1,493,000 coins sold as the Great Recession was at its worst.
