Obverse

On the obverse side of 2009 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of Walking Liberty. Her figure is shown in left-profile relief walking toward the sun on the horizon as she reaches out toward the sun with her left hand carrying branches of oak and laurel. The American flag flutters in the breeze over her shoulder in this design. Adolph A. Weinman created this bust of Liberty for the US Mint in 1916.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 2009 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin includes a vision of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This particular design captures the front-facing eagle with the US national shield on its chest, the arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other. This design was created in 1986 by John Mercanti for this series.

History

The 2009 coin had a total mintage of 30.459 million coins. For that one year, the 2009 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin was the record mintage.
